I Finally finished persuasion ⚓ 2022. I really loved all the POC characters that was a welcomed change and I did like how further along in the script we did get to hear some classic Persuasion lines. So in those regards I was quite pleased. The cast was amazing. All except for Dakota. I couldn't connect to her as Anne Elliot maybe it was her smirks, or winking, her clumsiness or her cheeky and cocky nature. The point I thought of Anne Elliott was that she was least like an Elliott. Not vain, not cocky and more shy That she was shy, yet intelligent. That she was socially awkward and not the center of attention like Dakota portrayed.
Maybe it was the screenplay that was off and the actors did their best. The comedy was good. The scenery and the costumes were breathtaking. Did I mention that the POC were the best part of it for me and outshined the lead actors? I want to keep being so encouraging of this movie because of how inclusive it is. And they the POC actors/actresses were the highlight and best part for me. There's alot of things I liked about it actually but it's just the main two that felt off to me. Cosmo had some good points. And i enjoyed him and did a great job. I wasn't attracted to him though. The captain is one of my favorite Austen men. But he was a decent Wentworth. I don't like how they modernized Mary Musgrove.
But I did love all the other Musgroves so much. I wish they had more scenes with the Crofts. And I wish they explained Lady Russell's connection to Anne and that she had persuaded her against Wentworth and why. (I didn't like that Lady Russell was taking sex trips. Thanks for promoting that black women are whores trope. We didn't need that in the yet another movie)
Overall umm I'd have to say a 6 or 7 out of ten. Also why do I feel guilty for loving fire island more than this one? Imma give it another go when I can. It was a rough watch for me because I love the book so much. Final answer and review 6/10 #persuasion2022 #msaustenhomegirl
